Abstract

This study examined the relationship between multimedia utilization and instructional effectiveness among Social Studies teachers at the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue Campus during the academic year 2026-2027. Anchored in the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) Framework and Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, the study employed a descriptive-correlational research design involving 50 Social Studies teachers selected through complete enumeration. Data were gathered using an adapted and researcher-modified questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Findings revealed a generally low level of multimedia utilization (M = 2.48), with educational videos being the most frequently used resource. Instructional effectiveness was generally rated effective (M = 2.55), particularly in attaining learning objectives, while student engagement remained comparatively less effective. Time constraints emerged as the primary challenge, followed by technical skills and resource availability. Correlation analyses revealed no statistically significant relationships between multimedia utilization and instructional effectiveness (r = 0.216, p = 0.132) or between multimedia-related challenges and instructional effectiveness (r = -0.123, p = 0.397). The study concluded that instructional effectiveness depends on more than multimedia utilization alone, highlighting the importance of appropriate pedagogical integration and institutional support. It recommended adopting Project MILES (Multimedia Integration for Learning Enhancement in Social Studies) to strengthen teachers' technological competencies and instructional practices. The study supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by promoting technology-supported teaching and institutional capacity development. Its sustainability impact lies in supporting continuous faculty development, effective resource utilization, and long-term instructional improvement.
